Zane Walks for Bucks culminates with building expansion announcements

forabetterusROn May 9 and 10, Zane Moore, President/CEO of YMCA of Bucks County and a team of supporters, donors and staff walked across Bucks County to raise awareness of the impact that the Y makes in the lives of those who live and work in the Bucks County community. The Y also introduced two exciting building expansion/renovation projects which are planned to begin within the next year.

At five “Zane Walks for Bucks” community events, the Y asked for financial support of their “For a Better Us” campaign, a $20 million initiative to raise the funds needed for these critical facility expansion and renovation projects at the Fairless Hills and Doylestown branches. In addition, donations will support the Y’s annual campaign, raising funds for the YMCA financial assistance program as well as vital community programs including their THRIVE cancer wellness, Veterans Wellness and new Back to You designed to support individuals recovering from substance abuse.

“Our leadership is committed to ensuring the needed resources are in place to enable the Y to provide the very best in programs and facilities for all,” said Zane Moore, President/CEO of YMCA of Bucks County. “Thanks to the generosity of many early donors, we have already raised 70% of our goal and we are now counting on the community to help us reach our goal.”

Fifty-five YMCA donors, board members, and staff members walked along with Zane for different legs of his nearly 50-mile journey from Quakertown to Fairless Hills, each demonstrating their support and encouraging donations to the Y’s campaign. At several stops, children from the Y’s early childhood education program cheered him on and members of the Y’s Veterans Wellness program walked him into Doylestown on Thursday evening.

Zane Walks for Bucks was sponsored by Gym Source, a distributor of residential and commercial fitness equipment in the United States.

Rally events held in both Doylestown and Fairless Hills were attended by several hundred members excited to celebrate their community Y and learn about the expansion and renovation projects set for both facilities.

In Doylestown, the renovation will involve an 11,000 square foot expansion to increase the size of the fitness center, add a universal locker room, dedicated spin room, and additional program space as well as future programming space on a ‘roughed in’ second floor space. In Fairless Hills, the renovation will be a total overhaul of the current facility with an entirely new look and feel. Plans call for re-configuring the space within the building to gain additional usable square footage, while at the same time decreasing the building footprint to create additional and much needed parking. Recapturing this unused space will enable the Y to provide an expanded fitness center, universal locker room, additional program space, and a community gathering area.
