INDOOR TRIATHLON

We're bringing back our Indoor Triathlon at the Doylestown branch of YMCA of Bucks County. The indoor tri is a great opportunity to stay focused during the cold winters, engage with your community, make new friends and progress toward your personal fitness goals. Enjoy a morning of excitement, encouragement and connection with your fellow racers.

New to Triathlon? Our indoor triathlon provides a positive and supportive atmosphere that will allow novices to gain competence and confidence — while providing a great addition to the training regimen of seasoned athletes.

Individuals registered for the indoor triathlon can attend these free swim and spin training sessions in preparation for the event:
8-9PM Swim training
9PM-10PM Spin training

Event Structure & Information

Our indoor triathlon is based on time rather than distance. The total event lasts for 85 minutes for each wave, consisting of:

Swim: 10 minutes in the pool
Transition 1: 15 minutes (move from the pool to locker room to spin studio)
Bike: 30 minutes on an indoor bike (in spin studio)
Transition 2: 10 minutes (move from the spin studio to treadmills in fitness center)
Run: 20 minutes on treadmill

Racers are graded on a curve. The furthest distance in each category gets the most points (actual number is based on total racers) and the shortest receives one point. A racer’s “score” for the discipline is based on the points they achieve. All three disciplines count equally toward their final score. Therefore, their rank and score will not be determined until all racers have completed the event. Transition times are fixed between events and do not count toward racer scores.  The final score tally will be posted on Tuesday following the event.

Details of each discipline:

SWIM

  • Indoor pool (length of pool will determine distance traveled in miles) 
  •  In-water start, two racers per lane, each start at opposite side of the pool and swim on their own lane side
  •  Any stroke may be used and you may walk if feet can touch the ground
  •  No life jackets, floats, paddle boards or outside assistance permitted
  •  Snorkels are permitted during the swim portion of the event
  •  Volunteers will count each racer’s laps

BIKE

  • Spin bikes will be used 
  • Racers may adjust the resistance to any desired level 
  • You can adjust the bike for a comfortable fit; one side of the pedal is a standard platform pedal and the other is compatible with a Shimano bike cleat.
  • Volunteers will record distance traveled 

RUN

  • All treadmills will be set on a 0% incline but may be adjusted to any desired positive incline level by the participant 
  • Participants may also choose their speed 
  • Volunteers will record distance traveled

Other details

  • Participants receive finisher's medal.

  • Event limited to the first 72 participants to register.

  • Registration closes March 22

Looking for more swim training?

Swim Clinic for Triathletes will focus on freestyle techniques and endurance to improve the swim portion of your triathlon. Experienced instructors will help to identify weaknesses in your stroke and assist you in correcting your mechanics to make your freestyle more effective. The clinic will also work on building endurance to allow you to swim farther as well as faster! Program offers two weekly options:

Monday evenings, March 2, 9, 16, 23 (8-9PM)
Tuesday afternoons, March 3, 10, 17, 24 (2-3PM)
