Whether you're looking to become a certified lifeguard (or recertify), seeking community CPR, First Aid, AED training or babysitter training, our programs are designed to equip you with the essential life-saving skills and certifications.  Successful course completion involves both written and practical examinations.

Adult & Pediatric First Aid, CPR, AED class for the community

First Aid, CPR, AED class is a great way for any member of our community (age 15+) to learn how to save a life and react appropriately to emergencies. This course is a blended learning format with some advanced classwork required. Link to advance classwork can be found below.

American Red Cross FA/CPR/AED certification courses satisfy OSHA-mandated job requirements, workplace or other regulatory requirements.

Lifeguard Training

American Red Cross Lifeguard classes are for adults or young adults aged 15 and over. Prerequisites for the class apply and include a swim-tread-swim sequence (150-yard swim, two-minute tread, 50-yard swim) and a timed event (20-yard swim, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, 20-yard swim holding object above surface and exit without using ladder or steps in 1 minute, 40 seconds.)

Full programs = All training including classroom provided through the course.

Blended learning = Seven hours of online coursework completed in advance of class. A record of successful completion of the online portion should be brought to the first day of class.

Lifeguard Recertification

Classes are periodically scheduled for Lifeguard review. A currently valid lifeguard certificate or a certificate that expired within 30 days of the scheduled class is required when enrolling in this program.

Full programs = All training including classroom provided through course.
Blended learning = Online coursework required to be completed in advance of first day of class. You will receive a record verifying your successful completion of the online portion and this should be brought to the first day of class.

Babysitter Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR

Babysitter Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR class that provides youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave and learn about basic child care . The course also includes first aid and pediatric CPR. Recommended age for this course is 11-15 years old. 

*Training is provided in a blended format, requiring at home coursework need to be completed by the first day of class.

Lifeguard Instructor Training

Age 17+ | The Y is certified to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training:  Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue.

Students will be sent link to online portion of training class after enrollment.  The program is offered in direct partnership with the American Red Cross; no refunds can be issued.

Lifeguard Instructor Recertification

A review course allows eligible individuals with current certification, or a certification expired by no more than 30 days, to recertify and receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/ CPR/AED without participating in a full course. The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal class setting. Students will be sent link to online portion of training class after enrollment.

Lifeguard Instructor Crossover/Re-Entry

Former American Red Cross lifeguarding instructors whose certifications expired no more than 2 years before the beginning of the Instructor Crossover/Re-Entry Bridge course and current lifeguarding instructors from other organizations (see list below) are eligible to participate in the Lifeguarding Instructor Crossover/Re-Entry Bridge course. Instructors whose authorizations were suspended or withdrawn for any reason are not eligible to participate in the Lifeguarding Instructor Crossover/Re-Entry Bridge course. Attendance and successful completion of a crossover/re-entry bridge course will result in American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification. Students will be sent to online portion of training class after enrollment.
